 | With so many myths, fads and fashions on the subject of dieting we thought it would be helpful and reassuring to provide some science (not too heavy) to prove why our diet works. To our knowledge we are the only diet company in the UK with a full time Medical Director. Dr David Ashton, BSc, MD, PhD is one of the UK's leading weight loss experts and he put together the Weight to Go diet. We asked him to say a few words about the science and thinking behind the diet.

It's based upon my own experience of managing patients, together with published scientific evidence from centres of excellence throughout the world. Key among these are clinical trials that have shown that meal replacements offer a highly effective, predictable and safe approach to weight loss. In fact, more than 3 times as much weight is lost and maintained using meal replacements compared with traditional diets. Based on these studies, we developed a diet that includes several key components that need to be in place if individuals are to lose weight and maintain it. |  |
These key components include:
- Real food - the diet must be satisfying, easy to manage and, most important of all, taste good
- Optimal macronutrient content - a moderate (50%) carbohydrate intake, low in saturated fat (less than 5%) but high in protein (20%)
- A 'decision free' diet in which all meals are prepared and customer intervention is kept to the minimum
- The use of low calorie portion controlled nutritional products has been shown in many studies to produce up to 3 times the weight loss found with standard diets*
- Regular physical activity - We recommend walking as the activity of choice for weight loss and maintenance
